Bailey's Journey

Bailey completed an MSc in Digital Business Management, developing strong capabilities in digital service design, business management, and change.

Motivated to lead digital innovation at scale, Bailey explored opportunities within the Civil Service after recognising the chance to contribute to public service, organisational stability, and large-scale transformation. Their experience and passion for digital delivery aligned strongly with the Civil Service's commitment to improving outcomes through technology and service design.

After attending a careers fair and researching a range of opportunities, Bailey identified a Grade 7 Digital Service Manager role that matched their skills, experience, and career aspirations. Successfully securing the position, Bailey joined the Civil Service and the Operational Delivery Profession (ODP), bringing fresh perspectives and a strong focus on delivering effective, user-centred digital services.

As a Grade 7 Digital Service Manager, Bailey leads a small team delivering and improving digital services that meet user needs, comply with Government Digital Service standards, and align with organisational strategy.  

Bailey is responsible for digital delivery, governance, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and people leadership. Recognised as a Subject Matter Expert, Bailey provides advice across the department and wider digital networks. To strengthen operational leadership capability, Bailey engages with the ODP learning curriculum, completing courses such as Managing Change and Managing Poor Performance to embed a continuous improvement culture. 

Following a personal relocation from Glasgow to Newcastle, Bailey seeks their next leadership challenge and successfully secures a Grade 6 role aligned to their digital expertise.

As Head of Digital Delivery, Bailey provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for digital services and transformation programmes. Managing two Grade 7s, Bailey drives an agile delivery culture, maintains delivery momentum, and ensures digital solutions support organisational priorities and user needs.  

Bailey takes responsibility for strategic planning, governance, stakeholder engagement, and risk and compliance. Using the ODP Skills Framework, Bailey identifies development gaps and undertakes targeted learning in communication and risk management, preparing for future senior leadership.  

Having maximised learning and impact in the role, Bailey is successful in applying for promotion to the Senior Civil Service.

As Director of Digital Transformation, Bailey leads the organisation’s end-to-end digital strategy, setting vision, driving cultural change, and overseeing investment in technology and data capability. Bailey oversees delivery of user-centred digital services that support planning processes and wider government priorities.  

Bailey’s responsibilities include governance and investment assurance, stakeholder engagement, delivery oversight, and capability building across the organisation. Committed to developing others, Bailey actively mentors' colleagues through the ODP LISTR programme and promotes continuous improvement using the ODP Professional Skills Framework and learning curriculum.  

Bailey continues to consolidate experience in role, seeking further development opportunities to support long-term impact before considering future progression.
