Department

The Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is responsible for approving instructors and delivering driving tests to promote road safety standards. It is an executive agency of the Department for Transport (DfT).  

Intent

To enable individuals to obtain a full UK driving licence by passing the required theory and practical tests, ensuring they meet national standards for safe driving on public roads.  

Interaction

Operational Delivery Profession (ODP) colleagues support customers throughout the process of booking, taking, and passing driving tests. 

They assist with booking, rebooking, or cancelling theory and practical tests, ensuring customers can access DVSA services efficiently. 

On test day, colleagues ensure processes run smoothly, including identity checks, eyesight tests, and verification that the vehicle meets legal and safety requirements.  

Driving examiners conduct the theory and practical tests to assess whether a candidate meets the required standard. Results are recorded accurately, ensuring licensing decisions are based on consistent national criteria. 

Throughout the interaction, ODP colleagues provide clear guidance, ensure compliance with standards, and signpost customers to relevant services where needed.
